Minification is not encryption and does not reduce the semantic content of the data. The tool first parses the input, so invalid JSON (such as trailing commas or single-quoted strings) will produce an error instead of a minified result.

Does minification change the data?

For valid JSON, parsing and re-serialization preserve the data structure, but formatting and whitespace change.
